WEEK 3

Animation hand with ball

Deformation, animation setup and uses:

Non-Linear deformers bend, squash, twist etc for animation and modelling

Final outcome:

Ball with Tail

Briefly cover Offsetting/ Anticipation planning/ animating ball with Tail.

Anticipation is the second of the 12 rules of animation and has two levels of meaning. The first level is the physical level and is divided into three distinct phases. The first stage is preparing to perform an action, the second is the action itself and finally, the completion of the executed action. The most important aspect of anticipation is that the action to be performed is as clear as possible. The audience relies on you for clues in the course of the story.

WEEK 2

SHARK

During the lecture in class, we saw how to animate an object following a path. We also learnt how to deform and animate it. Finally, by setting up a moving camera, we saw how to render the sequences using the point of view of the chosen camera.

At the end of the lesson, we saw how to model the object giving it more detail and more realism.

The homework assignment was to complete the shark and improve it. I worked on the sand to give it a more realistic effect, then modelled the shark and created a texture to paint it.

Outcome:

PENDULUM

In this lecture, we looked at how a pendulum moves. The overlapping of actions gives the animation a natural feel. The principles behind overlapping actions are crucial if you want your characters to move believably and appear to live on earth with the gravity, weight and mechanics of the real world.

Animation of a bouncing ball

Story board to determine the timing of the ball’s bounce.
Frame-by-frame animation of the story board.

FINAL ANIMATION:

Maya Basics

The lecture was aimed to get familiar with Maya: its interface, short codes and commands.

The first part of the class focused on rendering a scene with lights and shadows.

In the second part of the lesson, we animated three objects on a plane: “The Slug Race.”
